I was in the army in 1941 and stationed in a convent (no Nuns ! ) in Bexhill for several months. I would be interested in visiting it but cannot remember where it was. I remember the entrance was in a large walland you turned immediately right up a steep drive to the convent buildings.
Can anyone help me ?

Hi Kenneth,
Could it have been Nazareth House? Here's a photo: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/122335. It has now been converted into apartments.

Greetings
No - I do not think it was Nazareth House, There was a high wall along the pavement and a steer driveway the otherside taking you up to the convent which was gthen facing you as you went up i.e at right angles to the roadway and wall.
However - Thanks for your suggestion

Was it on the corner or near the corner of Buckhurst Road and Sea Road as it goes into Upper Sea Road - it is on the hill on the side of the hill but near the top and if you carry on up Upper Sea Road (leads up the hill from the sea and the station) - and go round a bend the Manor barn is on your right and you are in the Old Town Bexhill - this is because I am interested in researching these grounds as we have an apartment here and I have researched that before this was built finished late last year - there was a derelict property here it had been the Metropolitan Convalescent Home Seaside Branch - for Women and also at some point around 1970 a Mental Health hospital or hospice or something along those lines - the building was built in 1881 - and had been used during the second world war by the army - when the new building was built they had to disarm an unexploded world war 2 bomb here - before that there is mention of a convent the Loretto Convent and it does have a wall surrounding it (a low wall now but dont know if it has always been a low wall) it has a long drive that goes upwards towards the apartment block - I am trying to find out as much information as I can about this building if you see bexhill postcards website it shows pictures of the Metropolitan Covalescent Home and the surrounding area to check out if this is the building that you remember - I am a part of the residents representatives for this apartment block and would love to hear from any one with any memories of this site if this is the one that you are looking for
