Hi,
Does anyone have any knowledge/memories about a farm that used to exist in the area where Pages Lane/Crofton Park Avenue now stand?
I don't think it was probably very large, and I know the houses in these roads were built in 1965 ish, so it's not that long ago the farm was there.
I've tried searching on the internet for information and haven't had any luck.
I'd be very grateful if anyone has any info',
Thanks,
Fi

I have a memory from many years ago, my dad used to help out in the summer on a farm around there somewhere called William's farm, now wether that was the actual name of the farm or the chap that owned it I'm not sure, but I seem to remember that farm went off down pages lane area towards little common along what would now be birkdale.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your reply.
That would be the right area, I'll see what I can find using the name Williams Farm.
I was talking to a local v recently, who actually knows the name of it - I need to talk to him again, as I've totally forgotten what he said! He said it was called something 'estate' and knoew loads of stuff about local places.
I'll post again after I've found out more,
Fi

Now I do know that some of the land in that area was owned by The chap that started sainsburys the food shop, but I think that was more up towards the top of little common hill and down the hill towards the area you are looking at , might be a conection there.

I never knew of a farm in the Pages area but I'm pretty sure that the Williams family used to own Broadoak Farm off Broadoak Lane.
They had a daughter, Ann, who had freckles.

Now that rings a bell because my dad used to mention broad oak farm a lot,and thats where I would have got the williams name from.

Forgot to mention, the Sainsbury family lived in Pinewoods off the top of Collington Rise and probably had Broadoak Farm as a view. Who knows, perhaps they owned the farm and the Williams family were merely tenants.

I have only just picked this up when googling The Pages which was a house in Pages Lane where my great grandfather John William Webb lived. He was a builder who built much of Bexhill. It had a fair amount of land but was not a working farm. It was sold, demolished and redeveloped after the war but I think before 1965. I have quite a bit more information about it including photographs if you are still interested.

Hi Dave, I also used to work for Win and Vin Williams of Broad Oak Farm, I can still remember all of the fields that we used to work in. the Pages Lane fields used to stretch right alongside the railway to Gillham Wood now all housing, also fields where the Birkdale housing estate is, and the Penny Lane area both sides of Wrestwood Road, land between the Denbiegh and Collington Lane East all housing now, the only fields left are a couple off of Meads Road and those around Broad Oak Farm now Broad Oak Park many of these were planted with trees which have matured over the years and make for a pleasant walk. During my last couple of years at the farm we also did contract work for Dave Davies of Potmans Lane, also working on the farm with me was Trevor Franks and Gordon Moore was also a Dave but I can't remember his surname at present, remember Anne Williams she could do just as much as us lads,I'm hoping to hear from her as she was living in Little Common a couple of years ago according to another topic posted on here.
