Before the Continental, the Storkey family ran The Farmery restaurant in Sackville Road, a magical place, great food, very well run, used by many of the local shopkeepers.

Thank you for your responses. The Storkey's were my aunt and uncle. I believe my cousins, Ronald and Brian worked at the restaurant, too. I live in the US and spent a summer with them when I was six years old. I have wonderful memories of Bexhill and learned to swim while I was visiting that summer. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Lynne, It was a lovely surprise to read a message from you, my cousin in America, enquiring about Bexhill and the Storkey family.
Mum and Dad originally had the Farmery Restaurant in Sackville Road until 1959,which is where you must have stayed. They then had a Public House(Bar in American) in Hastings until 1963. They moved back to Bexhill and bought the Continental Restaurant and Nightclub and were there until 1996, the year that Mum died. Dad died quite young in 1972. Ron & I still live in Bexhill. I live on the seafront only a half a mile away from both of the 2 restaurants mentioned. I have a seen an old photograph of your Mum, Dad and you, alongside a swimming pool. Brian Storkey

Hi Jane
I remember your mum Ivy I worked with her for a few years and glad to read she is still going strong. The Continental has many good memories for many people over the years at the time it seemed it would go on forever shame it did not.
I think what made that place so special were the owners May Ron and Brian all had a heart of gold and never let anyone down.
Many relationships started there and some still going strong.

I visited there in 1968. My partner owned it very late fifties, possibly sold it 1960. She had taken over I think from Brian. Her cooks name I think was Madge, I recall her mentioning the Storkeys.
She's now 96.
